I miss it.

Happy Monday, lovers!

Nothing engages you like reading a book. I remember a time where I would completely lose myself in the pages of a novel for hours on end. A time when I couldn't wait to get home and curl up on the couch with my latest story. Heck, a time when the weight of my purse could be blamed on a four hundred pager. I haven't touched a book in over a year. Call it busy, call it finding new hobbies. I have many excuses that I tell myself about why I don't read for pleasure anymore. When I think about how much I miss reading, my heart feels a little heavier.

The last book I read from cover to cover was The Lovely Bones. I read it so quickly and let my imagination create the color and background for me. When I saw the film, which got decent reviews, I was so disappointed! Not because it was a bad movie, but because my brain had come up with a setting so much more wonderful.

I really want to make time to get back into reading. I hear The Hunger Games is a great read. I've also heard amazing things about The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I love reading books that are made into movies. I think one of these two might be the best remedy to my reading lockout.

What book do you think I should read? How do you make time for reading?

  1. I read the first two books in the Hunger Games series...and then lost the time to finish. They were AMAZING!

  2. I've been wanting to read The Hunger Games for the longest time.

I say we start a little blogger book club.. that way we'll have deadlines and be on top of reading, whether or not we want to make time ;)

  4. Yeah, movies after reading the books are generally disappointing. I read The Notebook and after that watched the movie, I was really disappointed even this movie is favorite of most people.

I haven't read these books neither but most people like The Hunger Games.

  5. HUNGER GAMES. Started Girl with the Dragon Tattoo over a year ago and have never felt the urge to finish it. I'm waiting on the movie. But I couldn't put Hunger Games down.

I don't exactly "make time to read" as I do "completely lose touch with reality." :)

  6. I haven't read Girl with a Dragon Tattoo yet [although it's on the someday list!], but I LOVED Hunger Games. SO GOOD. the story is compelling, the characters are interesting, and it's just well written.

  7. Hunger games. Duh. Don't even bother to defy me on this one.

I want to read the Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo but I've heard mixed reviews on it. Some love it, some hate it... A lot of people read it and said it was good but felt no desire to continue on in the series.

So, for that reason, start with Hunger Games... Devour those first, then attempt the other.

  8. One of my friends told me that the Hunger Games is amazing! I haven't been reading a lot lately because of school but I've got a whole list of books to read when I get time.

  9. I am a huge reader... and sometimes a huge book snob too. It took years for my peers to convince me to even pick up the Hunger Games. I have my qualms about the mechanics and the melodrama, but it's a YA book and it's good for that genre. I'm on book 3 now, and I really am enjoying it.

  10. you definitely want to read the hunger games. i finished all 3 books in a week. super easy read and very addictive. and i know exactly what you mean about the movie not meeting your imagination. for me, movies tend to ruin the books for that reason. but the hunger games and books alike aren't up to my intellectual standards….if you know what i mean…haha

i read a lot. always have…i like to read at least 10 pages before i go to sleep. it's a good way for me to unwind and it helps me get sleepy. or i'll read the whole book if i can't sleep. during the hunger games i didn't watch tv in evenings and read instead.

i hope you find time to read! it's so worth it.

  13. I loved the Lovely Bones and Lucky but I felt the movie was way different. Wish they had a movie for Lucky.

  19. GAH the hunger games. I couldn't put that series down. Such an easy, great read.

I'm usually a funny book girl.
If you want to laugh, read some Laurie Notaro books--best one is the Idiot Girls Club.

  21. I've read both of these books this year and I would definitely ease back into reading with The Hunger Games. You will fly through it. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is also an excellent book, but the first 100 pages are pretty brutal to get through.

  22. I've read both of these books. Trust me and read Hunger Games first. Although I really did like the girl with the dragon tattoo and even like the swedish movie that they did the first 150 pages were the MOST BORING I have ever read in my life. I almost gave up on the book even and I never do that!
