I absolutely adore my small, quaint apartment. My roommate and I downsized upgraded from your typical upper crust suburban area of San Diego to a much more fun, urban area with a ton of mom and pop shops and bars.
Well, nine months later we're still piecing together the decorations.
I'd like your advice for one particular area of our living room.
But first let me give you a tour.
View #1 of the living area (Small dining area to the left and small kitchen straight ahead)
View #2 of the living area (front door down that hall to the left)
View #3 the pesky blank wall with VERY little light as you can tell! Yes, the flash is on! As well as ALL of the lights in the common area.
This wall leads to the hallway of the front door to the left and a small patio to the right.
We want something simple and elegant. Not something that is going to over power the rest of our apartment as we already have the book shelf with lots of pictures and and figurines.
What would you suggest?
Can you paint in your apt? You should paint a simple accent wall a fun and bold color! It would be super cheap and you can always paint it back
ReplyDeleteMaybe some really big framed pictures, or even framed wall paper? That way it would add some bright color but you don't have to mess with paint. :)

What about painting that wall a fun color? I say do a fun accent wall to brighten the room up! Oooooh maybe a nice red?! I'm a sucker for red. :)

Vinyl. It doesn't mess up your walls {if you can't paint} and you can easily change if you get tired of it. There are a ton of pretty inexpensive websites out there with different quotes and colors. I LOVE me some vinyl! :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe some mirrors? I've seen a lot of people do a mirror wall, and that way they reflect the other lights in the apartment, which might brighten it up a bit.
ReplyDeleteCollection of framed pictures? Collection of different mirrors? Bonus with the mirrors is that it will make that room seem larger than it is! Or a narrow foyer table with a large mirror over it?

I agree with the other comments; my first thought was a large mirror (or a collection of smaller mirrors, in cool shapes/colors) because it will make the space seem bigger and will reflect light. They've got a pretty decent selection at IKEA.

So what you're saying is that you want me to order you a giant photograph from Shutterfly - possibly a wall mural - of myself for that wall? I mean, for you. But only for you.
ReplyDeleteNo but seriously I would do a lot of random oversized frames of various sizes (maybe like 5) and arrange them on the wall with pictures or artwork. You could get them for cheap and spray paint even. That's 1 option.
ReplyDeleteAnother option, get a big pretty mirror and put a really narrow but longish table under it where you can put mail, etc. Or seasonal decor. A sideboard in a way but skinny? Does that even make sense?
i'm a total fan of mirrors on walls. or maybe you can start collecting lots of different shapes and sizes of mirrors and create a gallery wall.
ReplyDeletewall gallary of a bunch of black and white photos or accent wall would look great too(not sure if you can paint!)
ReplyDeleteIf you're allowed, you should put a quote on the wall. Like one of these types of things...http://compare.ebay.com/like/110618987901?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar
ReplyDeleteNot necessarily that one, but one of those. Ya know? I think that'd look cool and it wouldn't stick off the wall like a frame would so it wouldn't seem too in your face. Plus, you already have other wall frames, so it's something different.

Maybe a wall gallery?

Um, I have a ton of ideas. I'm just going to email you. buttttt….you should check out Etsy for some prints. I'd say 3-5 in a row on the wall. :)
ReplyDeleteMirrors, like cute square ones in a pattern a few inches apart. Plus it'll reflect off the balcony and make the room appear larger. Plus you can then see your pretty face when you walk by.
ReplyDeleteThose are all such good suggestions! I hate huge blank walls! If you can paint it, I would say do a fun stencil! Or a gallery wall with different size prints, pics and frames!
ReplyDeletePost a pic when you getbit done!

What about one of those cute iron designs that also hold candles? I have one and it's not too big but looks great as a stand alone wall piece.
ReplyDeleteI'd say a photo collage wall. A bunch of different frames in different sizes full of fun memories! It adds depth and pops of color if you choose bright frames.
ReplyDeleteyou definitely need some art work on the walls!
ReplyDeletei have to agree with Lauren's ideas! def get a large mirror -- it will also help make the room look bigger. & can you paint your walls? because paint color can make all the difference ;]
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ruthie :) that would be so fun if you could! :) You could do a wall of picture frames too!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the girlies above a big mirror will give an illusion of a larger room (: Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog. I'm now following you back (;
