Goals. Resolutions. Depending on your perspective this can be a good thing or a bad thing.
I know you're all thinking let's get through Christmas right now, Hollie. But this new year, I'm going to accomplish stuff. And I want to be prepared. Last year, I didn't make a 'new years resolution' ON PURPOSE! Why? Because the resolutions I thought of in the past weren't thought through and didn't have momentum and didn't have a step by step plan. So I didn't achieve them.
Plus, I was against having one month a year that we update our goals. Why can't I come up with a resolution right now? For instance, I decided in April I wanted to start a blog. Not just think about it. Yeah, it took me awhile to start it...but early/mid May I went for it! I decided I wanted to eat healthier at lunch (but not bring it) and now I go to the grocery store and get soup or salad 3-4 days of the week. I wanted to stop dying my hair every eight weeks and now it's every sixteen-twenty. When there is a will, there Is a way! Cliche but true.
While you can make a goal at any time, I think a new year is a special time to make a change. And it's the cool thing to do ;) This year for me is to shop less, gym more (okay at all) and to take summer school (I am NOT a fan)
Keys to success?
-breaking up your goal into smaller mini goals.
-addressing your bad habits. how can you get around your excuses? recognizing them is the first step.
-set a reward for yourself when you hit goals.
-put up a calendar and set deadlines!
What are your goals for the new year? How do you succeed?

I need to start thinking about my goals/resolutions for 2012. I know one of them is I want to run a 5k and a 10k and maybe start training for a half marathon!
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
Shop less is a GOOD one... My wallet needs this especially since I am needing to tighten up in exactly 6 months.
ReplyDeleteGym - yes, me too.
Seriously I was thinking we were the same person until you mentioned summer school. You lost me. But, I would like to take a class... a fun one. Photography or painting, something artsy. But, it's a time thing. Maybe if I just set some time aside for myself to craft on my own, practice taking photos, etc, it will have the same sort of effect!
LOVE your breakdown, especially making big goals into smaller ones. I need to do that! Is this your man?! CUTE!!
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to keep resolutions made in January but I really want to start running. So I'm going to try the Couch to 5k program.
ReplyDeletei love this, i need some resolutions because i never stick to mine!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I am one who makes excuses far too often when it comes to my own personal goals!

My New Years Resolution is to get back out my sewing machine! I took a 4 month long sewing class a few years back and did awesome but then never used it again! I am so pissed. I dont want to start making clothes or anything, just simple stuff like pillows and curtains!
ReplyDeleteLove this! I'm so bad at keeping my new year's resolutions. I think partly it's because I dont even make logical resulutions haha.
ReplyDeleteI'm still not sure what my resolution will be for this coming year though
Love the post!!
ReplyDeleteshop less = has name alllll over it
ReplyDelete& gym more = that has my name on it too.
& summer school, well for me I have been in school for the last year straight. NOT FUN AT ALL. I want a year off. puhlease. & I have to say I would love to take a graphic design class or a photography class, they have always been something that I have been passionate about.
but I am going to make a New Years Resolution List but it isn't going to be HUGE. Just a couple things that I know will make a big impact on how I think & feel about myself.
Great post hollie mo mollie fe fi fum follie. hey hollieeee.
this is the second time i have sang this song to you. please love me.
Last year I made small goals for each month and it totally worked out!! I think the small goals over time work the best!
ReplyDeletetotally agree about not waiting til January to start your goals. no time like the present, right?! :) good for you, thinking through all this and realizing why it hasnt worked in the past. I like it!
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend and I wrote out goals for the year, and then traded them. I hold on to his, and he holds on to mine. We're doing a pretty good job! This year we'll get together and compare...and then write a whole new set!!

Are you crazy? Why would you want to shop LESS?! I want to shop more. That's my goal.
ReplyDeleteBuuuuuut, I'm not much of a goals person. At least not in the resolution sense. Breaking goals into smaller ones is the best idea. Reward yourself for meeting that tiny goal and build from there.
I'm with you on summer school. I only did when I had to. Good luck on that lady!
